Welcome to the latest console to the Venue family, the all new SC48.  This is the first in the Venue family of live sound consoles to be an all-in-one design, making the Digidesign SC48 console small and compact.  However make no mistake about the SC48’s compact design and ultra-affordable price point, this console packs a SEEEERIOUS punch!  What makes the SC48 such an intriguing product is that it literally is a baby Venue console---what I mean is, it’s just a smaller version of its’ bigger brothers.  With other manufacturers, they typically design a product to hit a particular price-point but in order to get there they start from the ground up looking at what they can include for that cost.  In the case of the SC48, the opposite is true.  What you have are the exact same microphone-preamplifiers, just they are built into the console.  You have the exact same converter that are, again, built right into the console.  What about the TDM plugins and processing? Again, EXACTLY the same---just less DSP is all.  Other things to note is that there are only 16-input faders instead of 24-faders on the Profile systems, less knobs, less buttons, a smaller foot-print and a few other differences.  BUT.....the engine under the hood is the same, the sound is the same, the plugins are the same, the SOFTWARE IS THE SAME!!

I really want to emphasize that last point and explain why it is important..... For large-scale concerts, touring productions, major clubs, etc it’s common to have (2) consoles---one for FOH and the other for MONITORS.  What the band and performers need to hear on-stage is radically different than what the audience should hear, or would want to hear.  I mean, it doesn’t sound professional hearing a click-track in the house does it?  A particular manufacturer that used to be the standard makes a family of digital consoles that are all very good in their own ways, however they all work and operate different from the next.  Why should your sound crew have to learn two different consoles, even though they were designed and built from the same manufacturer?  This is even more of an issue with houses of worship where volunteers are not only needed, but heavily depended upon.  Most of the time these volunteers

have a hard time understanding anything other than fader movements let alone how to group channels, assign an aux-bus, adjust an EQ, etc.  And yes, it is common for even the modern churches of today to have separate FOH and MONITOR consoles due to the amount of inputs and musicians on-stage.  Because of this, simple is key---or at least SHOULD be, again we’re talking volunteers who give of their time to help mix sound for the congregation at their church---it should be fun, if it’s not---why would they want the stress?  And speaking of stress, that’s the last thing a busy technical director needs is worrying about training his staff on two different technologies!  WHAT A RELIEF for them with the Venue family of consoles having the SC48 as a monitor desk because if you know how to run the DShow console---operating an SC48 is exactly the same.  The only thing one needs to learn is the layout of the control surface, it is different----but it is the same.
