Hello, my name is Brad Lyons and aside from one of the top Venue and Pro Tools HD systems specialists in the field and a Sr. Sales Engineer at Sweetwater---I’m also a real world audio engineer specializing in church audio broadcast and production.  I am a resident volunteer for Blackhawk Ministries where we have been producing our worship services for television broadcast for over 35-years.  During that time, we have gone through many technologies, systems, workflows, and are continually moving forward.  While we are a large house of worship, our focus is on learning, teaching, and being “priests that go”.  Although we are a church, we have the same production needs that a small television station requires.  And because the fact we are a house of worship, the equipment we purchase and plan we set forward must work for years to come and that is why I designed the system that is in place.  When we decided to replace a large format DDA console for FOH, there were many options that were available to us other than the Venue D-Show console, which was just coming on the scene.  Having mixed on many of the top digital consoles from Digico, Yamaha, Innovason, Soundcraft, and others---I was intrigued to learn more about the Venue console. After receiving our first test  system into the facility at Sweetwater, I was completely BLOWN AWAY and called our technical staff down for a visit.  Within an hour, our team was sold and we moved forward to purchase one of the first D-Show consoles on the market.  Likewise, we were one of the first modern churches to take hold of the Venue / Pro Tools HD system.  For my needs though, just replacing the FOH console wasn’t going to be the full solution because of what we do for broadcast. The integration of Pro Tools HD with Venue has completely revolutionized how we handle audio, recording, live and post broadcast for television and DVD.  Below is a diagram of the core of my system so that you better understand (visually) what is going on.

Digidesign PQ Rack and PQ Personal Mixers- Control of up to (8) channels of our wireless IEM’s on-stage direct from the Venue console.

The BIBLE HOUR is our weekly ABC broadcast from Blackhawk Ministries where I record and mix the worship service.  While we do post for tv the following week, we do broadcast live over a closed-circuit network.  The clip to the left is a preview of a morning worship service at Blackhawk Ministries, an example of the what I do based on the system diagram below.  The video is edited on a Mac Pro using Final Cut HD.
