As the head audio director for the Unity Performing Arts Foundation (UPAF) in Fort Wayne, IN, we have been invited to participate and represent the United States at the 6th World Choir Games in Shaoxing, China, July 15-26, 2010. We are the first-ever Indiana choir to participate in the World Choir Games, which are called the “Olympics of Choral Music”. Time is running out, we have to raise $720,000 to fund the campaign. This is not only a chance of a lifetime for these kids, but they are representing our country in the largest International competition in the world. Over 400-choirs representing 90-countries will be in competition this July. I will personally be flying to China serving double-duty as both the Audio Coordinator for the various performances around Shaoxing and Shanghai as well as the Production Manager for the planning and entire trip. There will be more to come on the list of gear we are taking, as well as the story-lines that are emerging.
This video clip is a series of clips from some of the soulful sacred songs recorded from the Soulful Celebration Concert in 2008 at Blackhawk Christian Church in Fort Wayne, IN. In tracking such a large-scale event, a great deal of gear was used to make this production happen. Mixing front of house was through a Digidesign DShow Venue console, but tracked directly into ProTools HD using the TDM recording option. The microphones used for this concert include those from Neumann, AKG, Shure, Audix, BLUE, Royer Labs, Mojave Audio, Earthworks, and Audio Technica. Using a combination of the Aviom personal monitoring system with the Digidesign PQ Control, roughly 20-independent monitor mixes were made available to the band and musicians on-stage. Recording a concert of such a large-scale production isn’t easy and it comes from YEARS of real world experience. This experience is put to use for my own clients in helping YOU select the right gear and tools for the job! I don’t just sell gear--I actually use this stuff on a regular basis in real-world situations, pushing the limits of what the equipment was designed to do. And I can tell you from experience that recording and mixing for the Voices of Unity Youth Choir isn’t easy---they set the bar high for professionalism, sound quality, and overall an incredible musical experience that will leave you craving for more!
Please don’t forget to give at http://www.dreamsofgold.org and spread this clip around the country and encourage people to get behind these young people who are doing something positive with their lives. Help us bring back the gold medal for the USA. Please donate at least $10 today (or more if you can) to help these amazing kids have an experience they will never forget, but also to help them represent YOU and our great country in the 2010 World Choir Games, the biggest stage in the world!
